Floor slabs

What it involves

A floor slab is the horizontal structural element that separates each level of a building: it carries live loads, furniture and partition weight and transmits them to beams, columns and, ultimately, to the foundations. At SPL we deliver the complete slab, from setting out and formwork assembly to placing the reinforcement (mesh, top bars, joists or coffers depending on the system), pouring and vibrating the concrete and curing it, leaving the floor ready for the next level.

We choose the slab type according to the spans to be covered, the expected loads and the structural engineer's design. The one-way slab, with joists and infill blocks, is the most common solution in housing; the waffle or coffered slab distributes stresses in two directions and spans large distances without downstand beams; the solid slab offers maximum structural performance for cantilevers, technical floors or complex geometries. In every case we work with our own qualified team, respecting concrete cover, levels and striking times.

Benefits

  • Our own team qualified in formwork, rebar and concreting

  • The right system for your spans, loads and engineer's design

  • Concrete cover, levels and flatness controlled floor by floor

  • Striking times met so the build never loses momentum

Scope & types

  • One-way slabs with joists and infill blocks

  • Waffle or coffered slabs for large spans

  • Solid slabs for cantilevers and complex geometries

  • Sanitary and ground-floor slabs over the foundation

  • Cantilevers, balconies and eaves integrated into the slab

  • Reinforcement, formwork, pouring, vibrating and curing of the concrete

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the spans to be covered, the loads and the structural engineer's design. One-way slabs are standard in housing; waffle slabs cover large spans without downstand beams; solid slabs are the strongest option for cantilevers or complex geometries. We review your project and recommend the right solution.
