What it involves
Formwork is the mould that shapes concrete while it cures, and at SPL Group we treat it as a technical part of the build, not a throwaway consumable. We design and assemble modular formwork systems (metal and phenolic panels) for columns, walls, slabs and floor decks, plus custom formwork for singular geometries such as curved walls, cantilevers and exposed edges. Controlling flatness, plumb and joint tightness directly determines the finish: well-clamped formwork with the right release agent prevents honeycombing, fins and grout leakage.
Within the construction process, formwork sits between rebar fixing and pouring: it receives the reinforcement, withstands the pressure of fresh concrete through calculated shoring and ties, and is struck within the correct timeframes so the structural element's strength is never compromised. We work to the dimensional tolerances and fair-faced quality agreed in the project, leaving surfaces ready to be clad or, in the case of exposed concrete, as a final finish with no further treatment.
